Item Description
Style: Paying homage to the spirit of Sicily's artisans, this vintage Bentwood chair has been given a vibrant second life. At its heart, a proud peacock spreads its fan like tail - an emblem of wealth and royalty, surrounded by cream coloured flourishes and corner bunches of oranges. Every inch of the frame is dripping with hand painted citrus fruits, paying homage to the island’s tradition of prosperity. Keeping with tradition, it's finished in a protective French polish, providing a brilliant, traditional high-gloss shine with a deep, warm glow. Unique, one of a kind hand painted chair - a functional piece of art.
Story: Born in the grand Baroque era of the 1700s, the Sicilian painted chair started as a status symbol for the wealthy elite. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that these chairs adopted their signature look, borrowing the bold colours and intricate motifs of the famous Sicilian donkey carts (Caretto) evolving into vibrant expressions of folk art.
