Item Description
This is a very rare and high quality early Victorian campaign sofa. The design of this campaign sofa is particularly unusual as it has 4 ball and claw carved feet and wonderful original dry condition. The size is neat and compact but still very practical and a great focal point to a room.
Campaign sofas and furniture were explicitly designed for military officers, explorers, and naval personnel to take on long journeys and deployment's in the 18th and 19th century. They allowed British upper classes to maintain the luxury and civility of home while "under canvas" or at sea.
