Item Description
Fabulous antique European needlepoint tapestry dated around early 1800's with flowers, birds, butterflies and fruit. Its hand embroidered with fine needlepoint work, in wool with some silk threadwork and in beautiful faded colours, the panel depicts a large display of flowers surrounded by foliage, fruits, and amazing dramatic birds, then edged with a geometric border. The depiction has medieval and gothic influences and styles.. The panel was most probably from a fire screen, and has been mounted some years ago on board and edged in velvet. There are 3 very small holes, not noticable, and some small old repairs, not at all affecting the aesthetic appeal of the tapestry. This is a fine, quality wall hanging that would look amazing in a contemporary or period home.
