Item Description
Description: A pair of tall 18th Century Italian altar candlesticks. In hand carved lime wood with subtle polychrome painted decoration in shades of blue and cream. The top of the candlesticks consist of metal work drip pans, raised on carved baluster stems and the bases are triform with scrolled feet. These over sized, classically ornamented candlesticks would have originally adorned a Palazzo or Church altar.
Condition: Very good. One of the sticks is slightly taller and has an old honest repair in metal to the carved column. The shorter one has a split to one side of the base, however it is strong and does not effect the use. There is a time-worn and beautiful patination to the polychrome surface and some small losses to the wood in parts.
