Item Description
Description: An original, quality English antique doorstop/porter. This fine example is in polished brass and was manufactured in the early 19th Century. The axe head shaped loop handle has a chamfered socle and the base comprises of a stepped spherical shape, with a rounded base mould. Underneath is the original wooden loading, being wood it is slightly lighter than a cast iron base and was likely used for a pantry or cupboard doorstop. The brass is embossed with a highly decorative foliage pattern.
Condition: Very good. The brass has been hand polished and is unlacquered, therefore a gentle polish occasional will be needed to maintain this level of shine. Some slight signs of wear from age and use.
