Item Description
MID CENTURY GILT IRON AND GLASS COFFEE TABLE IN THE MANNER OF A.M.E. FOURNIER
A stylish table with trompe l’oeil base made from gilt iron to emulate twisted rope swag legs that appear to hang naturally from the frieze above, terminating in tassels that form the feet.
The table is unsigned so unsure of the maker but is of very good quality.
It is probably Italian in origin but we have also seen some similar examples attributed to France so could be French.
Dating from the mid 20th century period, circa 1950s.
Overall the table is in good vintage condition, the base is solid and sturdy and doesn’t have any structural issues or repairs. There is cosmetic wear consistent with age and use throughout. The gilding has naturally dulled over time and rubbed in places to reveal the red primer underneath. We think this natural patina adds to the aesthetic quality of the piece. The glass top is a more recent replacement as is stamped as safety glass.
Approximate measurements: 97cm wide x 61cm deep x 43.5cm high.
