Item Description
A beautiful coloured, early 19th century marble mortar with a boxwood pestle. This is probably Italian and dates from c.1820. The grey marble has an interesting mottled effect which ranges in colour from a very light to a very dark grey. The pestle is nicely turned from boxwood and the wood has a fabulous patina. There are a couple of very small chips on the lobes of the mortar and there are two splits in the pestle, one in the handle and one in the bulbous end.
