Item Description
A late Victorian, half pint, copper tankard. This is marked, to the base, “OLDHAM MAKER LATE ASKEW NOTTINGHAM”. Oldham took over a works in Nottingham from Askew which made silver plated wares, so originally this tankard would have been silver plated, but the silvering has now gone totally from the exterior. It has a Victorian assay mark “V.R. 145” beneath a crown and it dates from c.1880. The tankard is also engraved “CROWN DERBY” so it was probably made for use in the Crown Derby porcelain works. It is in very good condition but no longer useable as the silvering has also worn from the interior.
