Item Description
A fine quality, large, 18th century, English, Pratt Ware jug. The name Pratt belonged to a family of potters who were working at Lane Delph, Stoke, from the late 18th century. Very few known pieces are marked but the name then became used as a generic term for high fired, underglaze creamware and pearlware which used a particular range of colours. This jug is very finely potted in pearlware and it is moulded with scenes titled “MISCHIEVOUS SPORT” and “SPORTIVE INNOCENCE” in heart shaped cartouches.There is a chain link band to the rim and acanthus leaves to the base and the moulded design is decorated in shaded of green, blue, brown, ochre and orange. This is a delightful piece, dating from c.1795, and it is in perfect condition.
