Item Description
A lovely quality, pearlware jug with pink lustre decoration. This is either English or Welsh and it dates from c.1820. It is decorated, in varying shades of pink lustre, with a ruined castle and a thatched cottage in a continuous landscape. This style of decoration became known, generically, as the pink lustre house pattern, no matter what buildings were depicted, and it was produced in Staffordshire, Sunderland and Swansea. Usually there would be different houses to either side and it is quite unusual to find a continuous landscape like this. There are two very tiny chips to the end of the spout but otherwise it is in very good condition and the lustre decoration is still in very good, bright condition.
