Item Description
A rare, 19th century, French copper sorbetiere for making ice cream. Sorbetieres were usually made from pewter and it is very unusual to find one made from copper. This is only the second example that we have had. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper, has castellated seams around the base and up the side, and it dates from c.1850. There is slight pitting to the copper, from use, where it has been in contact with ice. Otherwise it is in good condition. The tinning to the interior is quite dark but the sorbetiere could still be used.
Dimensions: The container measures 33.2cm deep by 13.7cm diameter, so it is quite a large capacity, and the overall height including the handle is 40.5cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £30. Most of Western Europe add £15.
