Item Description
A matched set of six Wedgwood majolica, shell shaped plates. These are all marked “WEDGWOOD” but they have differing dates letter codes. Five have date letter codes for the year 1870, two being impressed “XMY”, one “NRY” and one “SZY”. The fifth plate is impressed “GBX” for the year 1869. There are also some odd impressed letters which may be workman’s marks. Each plate in moulded in the shape of a clam shell and then covered in mottled majolica glazes in brown green and yellow. An area of about 2 inches in length on the footrim of one of the plates has been ground down slightly but this does not affect the way that the plate sits and it is still perfectly usable. The other five are all in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Length 21.5cm. Width 21cm. Depth 2.5cm. There are marginal variations in the sizes due to shrinkage in the kiln.
