Item Description
Irish Sugan chair is one of having a rope woven seat of platted hay or straw, although in some parts of Ireland other platted seating was used depending on what was obtainable in the local area.
Constructed with continuous back legs and supports with a simple ladder back design.
The stretchers are all hand finished into a simple cigar shape using a spoke shave.
All joints are hand constructed with simple joints and dowels.
Constructed in ash and with layers of paint over the years give this chair the most lovely finish and patina.
The first records of Sugan chairs was listed around 1835 and was continuous until around 1902
