Item Description
19th Century Artisan Oak Small Work / Pig Bench – East Anglia
A wonderful example of rural vernacular craftsmanship, this small work or pig bench originates from the East Anglian region and was artisan-made in solid oak. Raised on four sturdy square legs, the bench is constructed with pegged joints to the top and strengthened with hand-forged dome head pins, suggesting it was designed for regular movement and use as a portable workbench, rather than solely for butchery.
The surface shows the story of its life: old saw marks, traces of paint, and a beautifully worn patina developed through generations of handling. Both practical and decorative, it is a superb piece of rural history that now works equally well as a side table, display stand, or statement interior accent.
