Item Description
George Baxter (1804-1867) was the inventor of commercial colour printing. Most illustrations at this time were handpainted, Baxter used the original block printing method which involved multiple blocks individually coloured and placed in perfectly alignment one over another to form a coloured print. Even after Baxter sold his printing plates and blocks, in 1865, he supervised the reprinting of many of his originals and these are therefore still called 'Baxtor Prints'. The prints fade quickly in sunlight which give them the 'Baxter' look and make then easy to find even now. This is an example of a George Baxter Print dipicting a Woman walking with her dog in a stream. In good condition. Measuring 8.5cm x 10cm
