Item Description
A striking early 20th century equestrian portrait, executed with a confident hand and careful attention to anatomy, bridle detail and tonal modelling. Painted on Winsor & Newton academy board and indistinctly signed lower right J.A. Wal…, further inscribed, with location and date - Lemberg 1910.
Presented in its original oak frame, designed for the board to slide into. The lower panel of the frame has come away and is currently loosely secured with tape, while the sides and top remain intact. Surface marks and light abrasions, including minor paint losses as shown.
The painting has not been restored and is offered in untouched, as-found condition.
Approx. 58 x 58 cm (including frame).
