A rare ceramic and pewter warming plate with a Wedgwood design by Thomas Allen on the plate and the pewter dish manufactured by H.F. &Co
The image is- 'MAY GOOD DIGESTION WATE ON APPETITE' A Shakespearian quote from 'Macbeth'
Part of a series from Wedgwood with quotes about food including- FISH, CHEESE, PASTRY, MUTTON & VENISON, these mainly appearing on tiles.
HARRISON FISHER & Co- were Manufacturers in Sheffield in the late 19th century of cutlery, teapots etc in silver, silver plate and pewter
It still has the original wire wall hanging attachment, images 4 & 6
Hot water is poured into the pewter dish via the spout to keep the food warm
Dimensions: Diameter 26.5cm, Diameter with handles 33cm, Depth 4.5cm
The condition is very good, slight wear on the pewter and a couple of faint stains on the plate but no chips or cracks. The original screw-in stopper is missing
