Item Description
An attractive Victorian drabware ale jug made by James Edwards & Son of Burslem, Staffordshire. The jug is made of ironstone and is decorated with a relief moulded game design. To the sides are roundels containing an image of a hanging hare and brace of game birds, while under the spout and behind the handle is a festoon of fruits. The roundels are surrounded by trailing ivy leaves and berries.
The base of the jug bears the impressed mark 'Edwards DH', for the Dale Hall pottery. This mark was used by Edwards between 1851 and 1882.
The jug is in good condition with no damage. There are a few minor firing faults to the glaze.
