Item Description
A particularly lovely example of its type, this mid-sized, burr elm box dates to the Regency period of the Georgian era (c.1820s). Originally a sewing box, it would now function fantastically well as a jewellery box.
It is of decent proportions with carefully chosen veneers on all sides and a contrasting edge banding and sat on turned wooden feet. The lock is complete with working key and a bone escutcheon and there is a silver plaque to the lid, engraved Emma Gwillian - a name of Welsh origins.
Internally there is a compartmentalised lift-out tray. The tray and base of the box are lined with a later, printed paper and the lid / sides with the original red paper lining. Everything is clean and functional - ready to house an antique jewellery collection.
The box measures 28cm wide x 19cm high x 23cm deep.
