Item Description
Description
A traditional hand-crafted terracotta jug, known as a Takduht, originating from the Aït Chenacha region of Greater Kabylia, Algeria, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
An example of North African Berber (Amazigh) folk pottery, reflecting the distinctive craftsmanship and artistic traditions of the Kabyle people. Traditionally produced by women using hand-building techniques, these earthenware vessels were created for everyday domestic use, combining practical forms with decorative expression.
Kabyle pottery is particularly celebrated for its sculptural shapes, earthy terracotta surfaces and distinctive geometric decoration, representing a centuries-old tradition of rural craftsmanship.
An attractive piece of Mediterranean folk art, equally suited to a rustic interior, contemporary setting or collection of traditional North African ceramics.
