Item Description

Style: This robust solid oak Glastonbury chair boasts a beautiful, rich wood grain with unique character. It features classic carved tri trefoils and a generously wide, deep seat designed for comfort. While some Glastonbury chairs utilise peg methods, this particular example has a combination of mortise and tenon joints. This chair is a rigid, stationary piece and does not fold, contrary to a common assumption. The backrest is made up of two pieces of wood which appears as a split, but does not hinder comfort or detract from it's charm. A versatile additional to your home, perfect for your fireside nook, kitchen, or bedroom.

Story: An earlier wooden chair, usually crafted from oak, became known in the nineteenth century as the 'Glastonbury Chair.' Its design is possibly derived from one made for Richard Whiting, the last Abbot of Glastonbury, England.
