Item Description
Style: Victorian‑era handsome hall chair, in deep mahogany. Its compact form is enlivened by a pierced backrest stamped with deep scrolling relief and a central recess shield shaped cartouche, giving a sculptural presence. The seat features a curved front edge, turned front legs and splayed rear supports. Solidly built with a warm, aged patina. There is a faint circular stain on the seat, which is reflected in the price. Height seat 43cm.
Story: Hall chairs were placed in the interior entrances of large stately homes in the 18th and 19th century displaying the importance and wealth of the owners, and provided a place for guests to sit before being shown to their rooms.
