Item Description

An exceptional and highly collectible Victorian silver platedoval serving tray by the premier British silversmiths Elkington & Co., dated precisely to 1893.

This substantial butler's tray is a superb example of late 19th-century Neo-Classical revival design, combining impeccable English engineering with continental aristocratic provenance.

Crafted under Elkington Factory Pattern No. 18234, the elliptical tray features a beautifully cast gadroon rim composed of repeating, crisp convex ribbing. The inner raised border is decorated with elegant, spiraled leaning fluting that brilliantly catches and plays with ambient light. Seamlessly integrated cut-out handles preserve the tray's clean, architectural silhouette and balanced proportions.

The smooth, mirror-polished central reservoir features a finely detailed, contemporary engraving of a Continental European Count's coronet. Characterised by its classic nine-pearl layout, this heraldic emblem indicates the tray was custom-commissioned for a high-ranking noble household-most likely of German, Austrian, or Scandinavian lineage-during the height of the late-Victorian era.

Fully marked to the reverse with Elkington & Co.'s stamped hallmarks, pattern number 18234, and the definitive date letter Hfor 1893.
