Item Description
An original quality large, antique cast iron door knocker. Dating from the early 1800’s this is a fine example of an antique front door knocker. Sourced in the South of France in Cannes, I’ve seen a similar example on an Italian church, it is possible that it originated from Italy. The handle takes the form of a rams head with stylised foliage scroll work running down the length. You can really see the quality in the details, like the hand made artisan feel to the strike and bolts. Complete with its original strike plate, this example has been mounted on a backboard, straightforward to remove and fix to a front door.
Condition: Excellent. The cast iron surface has been sensitively cleaned.
