Item Description
An unusual, early nineteenth century stainless steel bread knife with a carved wooden handle. The blade is marked “WARRENTED SHEFFIELD CUTLERY. Especially Made For Vallimahomed Dattoobhar & Co. BOMBAY” and the handle is carved with a typical Indian design. The blade is also marked “FIRTH STAINLESS”. Stainless steel was originally developed between 1913 and 1917 and Thomas Firth & Sons played a leading role in it’s development. The knife dates from c.1920 and is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Length 32cm. Width of blade 2.2cm. Diameter of handle 2.8cm.
