Item Description
A large, 19th century, French copper colander or sieve. This is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1860. The handle fittings are quite naive in style, and the rim is heavily wired, so this could possibly be a blacksmith made piece rather than made by a copper manufacturer. It was made for use with food as the interior was originally tinned. The tinning is now mostly worn away so the interior has been polished. It is in very good condition.
