Item Description
A nineteenth century, French copper sugar pan which has now been tinned for use as a saucepan. Originally this type of pan was not tinned and it was used for caramelising sugar. However, with the pouring spout, they are excellent for making sauces or for heating drinks, for which they need to be tinned. This example is made from a very heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. The end of the copper handle, where it is attached to the turned wooden handle, is stamped “D’ HARFLEUR”. There is another word above this which is now illegible. The pan, which has a slightly rounded base, is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Diameter of pan 13.3cm. Depth of pan 10cm. Overall length of pan and handle 39.5cm.
