Item Description
A rare, early 19th century, steel lark spit. This is English and it dates from c.1820. It would have stood in front of the fire and was used for roasting small birds such as larks. The bird was attached to the prongs and could be moved closer to the fire by extending the arm. The circular section would have held a plate so that the bird could be brought back over the plate to catch the juices. It is in excellent condition and is still fully functional.
