Item Description
A rare, early 20th century breadboard carved in oak. This is known as the “Weather Board” due to the carved motifs which include classical allusions to the four winds, lightening (Zeus/Jupiter), the sun (Helios/Sol) and two dolphins (Poseidon/Neptune). They are all very well carved in a beautiful scroll shaped board in the Renaissance style. The board is English and dates from c.1910. One side of the board has been broken at some time and this has been very carefully re-stuck so that it is barely visible. There must have been a slight fault in the wood as the break ran right through the board. This has been highlighted by the use of a tape measure in one of the images.
