Item Description
A nineteenth century, sycamore breadboard carved with an unusual motto. This is carved with “Waste not Bread the Staff of Life” in an ornate, Gothic script. You will see boards carved with “Waste Not” or “The Staff of Life” but it is rare to find these mottos rolled into one. A little of the letter n in the word ”not” is now missing but otherwise the board is in very good condition, with just the usual knife marks to both the face and the reverse of the board from use. The wood has a lovely, honey coloured patina.
