Item Description
A Wedgwood, dark green, jasper dip dressing table tray. This is marked “WEDGWOOD ENGLAND” and it dates from c.1900. It is also impressed with an indistinct letter. It is decorated, in white relief, with two of the Muses divided by an anthemion. To the rim is a border of oak leaves and acorns. The reliefs are all good quality. There are two chips to the rim, on the reverse of the tray. This colour was known as Dysart green as it was first developed for a special order for the Earl of Dysart. The green colour had a tendency to bleed into the white relief, and this could not be rectified, so production of the colour ceased in the 1920’s.
Dimensions: Length 26.5cm. Width 19.5cm. Depth 2.4cm.
