Item Description
A pair of large copper engravings from The New Royal Encyclopaedia; Complete Modern Dictionary of Arts and Sciences. Published 1789 by Cooke in the Paternoster Row area of London.
The illustrations from this publication were engraved on copper plates, using techniques common in the late 18th century. These engravings are black-and-white, highly detailed. Their precision reflects The Enlightenment's emphasis on clarity and empirical understanding.
Back plate illustration depicting the view of the arteries, with muscles on the right side of the body dissected off in order to show the deep scaled arteries.
Front plate illustration depicting the arteries, the sides of the thorax, with the abdomen and intestines removed to show the arteries with great precision.
Presented behind glass in bespoke wooden bullnose frame, hand made to conservation standards, ready to hang and be enjoyed for decades to come.
Dimensions (each framed image):
315mm wide
470mm high
