Item Description
Style: A vibrant tribute to Sicilian folk art, this unique, hand-carved element once graced a traditional Carretto Siciliano. Richly adorned in shades of blue, red, and green, the piece depicts the storied legend of Saint George and the Dragon. There are two available, both depicting George and the Dragon, but slightly different designs.
Note: The final image shows an example of a piece of cart seen in an antique shop in a Sicilian fishing village - you can see the central section (circled in blue) depicts a similar example of these pieces.
Story: The Carretto, or horse-drawn cart is an iconic symbol of Sicilian heritage, serving as a mobile canvas for local history and folklore. Beyond their beauty, these intricate carvings and painted scenes were historically essential for communicating tales of tradition to the public.
